What is Liquid Waste/F.O.G.?
Fats, Oils and Grease (F.O.G.) is found in common food and food ingredients such as mean, fish, butter, cook oil, mayonnaise, gravies, sauces and food scraps.
What happens if I don’t properly dispose of F.O.G.?
Everyday washing of plates, pots, pans and cooking equipment sends F.O.G. down the drain. Small amounts of F.O.G. washed down the drain over time can eventually build up in the plumbing pipes in homes as well as the City’s wastewater system. This buildup will eventually block the line and wastewater will backup into homes or overflow into the community.
How can I help Fight F.O.G.?
By limiting the amount of F.O.G. disposed of down the drain, wastewater lines are less likely to become blocked with grease and backup or overflow. Click here for a few simple ways you can help Fight F.O.G.
What do I do if I experience a backup in my home?
If toilets or drains are clogged, please call a plumber first. Be sure to ask where the blockage is and what is causing the blockage. This information will help you address the immediate issue and provide insight as to how to prevent it in the future.
If the problem is discovered to be in the public wastewater system or you observe a manhole overflowing, please contact Utility Dispatch at (254) 298-5611 so City crews can address the issue.

In an effort to reduce overflows caused by accumulated fats, oils and grease (F.O.G.) in the collection system and treatment facilities, the City of Temple adopted an amendment to the Code of Ordinances to include a Liquid Waste Article in September 2017.
Chapter 38, Article VII applies to commercial food service establishments and automotive service establishments and requires routine maintenance activities on the grease fixtures installed at their respective facility.
