Spreading warmth: city sees strong donations for Cold Weather Care Kits
When the City of Temple asked for donations to prepare Cold Weather Care Kits for members of the community, residents quickly answered the call.
“We asked the community for support on this project, and they definitely stepped up,” said Nancy Glover, director of Housing and Community Development. “We love it when we can partner with our residents and local organizations to help members of our community.”
In January, the city began collecting donations of warm clothing and personal care items, which were consolidated into kits to be distributed by St. Vincent de Paul. At the end of the month, 30 kits had been prepared, and Glover estimated enough items had been donated to make 50 more kits.
Businesses such as Stateside Right of Way Services got their whole team involved.
“I talked to my team here at the office and thought this would be a great thing to do for our community, so we just set a big box out and people have been collecting items here and there and bringing them in,” Stateside Director Lisa Roberts said.
The company donated about a dozen blankets, several packages of socks, gloves, sweatshirts and lotion.
Donations of the following items will be accepted through Feb. 23:

- Scarves
- Hats
- Hand warmers
- Lotion
- Blankets
- Lip Balm
- Gloves
Only new items with tags will be accepted. Donations can be dropped off through Feb. 23 at Temple Public Library, 100 W. Adams Ave., during Curbside Service hours, Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Park in one of the dedicated curbside pickup parking spots and call 254-298-5556 once you arrive.
