Feel Good Friday: The Temple Animal Shelter gets generous donation, TPD cures their sweet tooth
We can all use some good news these days and the Temple Police Department wants to start showcasing all the good in our community.
Every Friday we will aim to highlight something good that happened within our department, officers and around our community.
On this first Feel Good Friday, Allie Vanlangendock donated washable and reusable cat toys to the Temple Animal Service Center as part of her Girl Scout Silver Award Project. The Silver Award Project is the second highest award in Girl Scouting that is achieved during middle school years as a Cadette. The purpose of the Silver Award project is to build long lasting and sustainable projects that benefits the community.
Allie says she wanted to help the cats at the shelter after speaking with Amy Strunk, the shelter supervisor, about how their cats were bored and unentertained during the pandemic due to the lack of volunteers because of COVID-19. Allie states she has three rescued cats of her own and understands the importance of keeping them entertained.
“An unhappy cat can become aggressive and depressed, making it difficult to adopt out,” Allie said.
To take her project to the next level, Allie created instructional videos for making the cat toys, to teach others how they can support local shelters. Allie says the main goal of her project is to support the Temple Animal Services Center with long lasting cat toys that will keep them from constantly relying on donated replacements, and to keep the cats happy during the time of isolation.
Temple’s Animal Service is very appreciative of Allie’s efforts and dedication to put this project together.
On our second Feel Good Friday feature for this week, Altrusa International delivered 10 cakes to the Temple Police Department last month. The cakes were a token of appreciation on behalf of Ludwick, Montgomery & Stapp, CPA’s.
The Temple Police Department is thankful for the generous donation.
