Halloween safety tips from Temple police

Temple, TX (Oct. 29, 2020) -- Halloween may look and feel different this year due to COVID-19, but the Temple Police Department wants residents to enjoy this holiday as safely as possible.

Residents who choose to participate in Halloween activities are urged to follow CDC guidelines to avoid spreading COVID-19 as well as other general trick or treating safety tips:

  • Stay at least six feet of distance from people unless wearing a mask and wash hands before handling treats.
  • Trick-or-Treaters should avoid being alone and instead walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
  • Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible to avoid walking in roadways.
  • Choose bright costumes and have children carry flashlights or glow sticks so they are visible.
  • Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers and always inspect candy prior to eating.
Remember, on Halloween officers will hand out candy to children they come into contact with during their shifts. Officers will be wearing masks and use hand sanitizer.

During the holiday if you need to contact the police, call the non-emergency number: 254-298-5500 or in an emergency call 911.
