TPD Officers Honor Fallen Heroes

Sixteen officers and family members from the Temple Police Department participated in the Dual for Heroes Challenge for the month of May in honor of two Killeen Police Department SWAT Officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The challenge, which was organized by Kimberly Hornsby Wagner, wife of fallen Killeen Police Officer Bobby Hornsby, and Holly Dinwiddie, wife of fallen Killeen Officer Chuck Dinwiddie, challenged Temple officers to bike 234 miles and run 63 miles within a month.

“Most of us thought it was an impossible task and we rocked it,” said Deputy Chief Mac Fairey.

Killeen police officer Robert “Bobby” Hornsby, badge no. 63, was killed during a SWAT deployment in 2013. Officer Charles Dinwiddie, badge no. 234, was shot during a raid in 2014.

Throughout the month, officers would share their updates on the Dual For Heroes Facebook group to keep each other motivated and accountable.

“Just finished the last few miles of this challenge. I’m honored to have “Dueled” for such a hero. It was definitely a lot harder than I anticipated,” shared Office Davila on Facebook.

In total, all sixteen Temple Police Officers logged 3935.14 miles for the challenge.

The Temple Police Officers who participated in the challenge include: Mac Fairey, Martina Malone, Rachael Kennan, Colin Keenan, Daniel Vela, Gabe Estrella, Keith Esquivel, Carmen Davila, Lisa Hatfield, Kristin Nash, Andy New, Adrianna Huggins, Amber Hollis, Amy Carr, Joseph Dimento and Courtney Dimento.
