TPD honors Civilian Employee of the Month

Before officers start their early morning shift, Pilar Torrez can often be found in the Temple Police Department’s parking lot, making sure the officers’ vehicles are ready for duty.

Torrez was named the Temple Police Department’s Civilian Employee of the Month for May.

“What you do for us is so important and we wanted to recognize that,” Temple Police Chief Shawn Reynolds said as he presented Torrez’s award. “You are a very quiet guy, but the work you do speaks volumes about the support you provide this department.”

Torrez gets to work at 5:45 every morning to ensure patrol vehicles are serviced and well maintainedTPD Sergeant Sean Childress said.

“He does that so the night shift officers can be well rested,” Childress said.

During the recent ice storm, Torrez took it upon himself to sand the parking lot with a shovel so that officers could get in and out of the facility. He also helped pick up food for local warming shelters.

Torrez is one of dozens of civilian employees who provide crucial support roles to help officers provide exceptional service to the community.
