Sammons Community Center receives equipment donation

A local organization is helping residents stay fit after donating exercise equipment to Sammons Community Center.

Senior Citizens Activities, Inc., a nonprofit organization that benefits local seniors, donated a new treadmill and rowing machine to the center.

“There has always been a need to help senior citizens in the area,” Leland Gersbach said on behalf of the organization. “Sammons is a great place for senior citizens to be active, stay healthy and socialize.”

The Sammons Community Center holds numerous programs and activities geared toward seniors. The donated equipment will be added to the facility’s workout room.

“Walking is such a great form of exercise, but with extreme weather, it is more comfortable to do it inside,” Sammons Program Coordinator Lisa Saraceno said. “The treadmill allows patrons that option.”

Sammons Community Center has memberships available for only $5 a year for Temple residents, and $8 for non-residents.
