Alarm Ordinance

Effective October 21, 2010, the City Council adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 28, "Police", Article III, "Burglar Alarm Systems" providing for requirements for burglar alarm systems, requiring permits, alarm company registration, and providing for a fee for false alarms.


Adopted Fees

The following fees were adopted by the City Council:

Initial, Renewal, & Reinstatement Fees

  • Initial Permit Fee - None
  • Permit Renewal Fee - $15 (every 2 years)
  • Permit Reinstatement Fee - $15

Residential Fines & Fees

  • $25 fine for more than 3 but less than 6 false alarm calls in a 12 month rolling period
  • $35 fine for more than 5 but less than 8 false alarm calls in a 12 month rolling period
  • $50 fine for 8 or more false alarm calls in a 12 month period

Commercial Fines & Fees

  • $50 fine for more than 3 but less than 6 false alarm calls in a 12 month rolling period
  • $75 fine for more tan 5 but less than 8 false alarm calls in a 12 month rolling period
  • $100 fine for 8 or more false alarm calls in a 12 month period

How the Ordinance Works

Violations & Offenses

It constitutes a violation or offense of the ordinance:
  • To operate an alarm without a valid permit
  • To operate an alarm with a revoked permit
  • To violate any other provision(s) of this ordinance
