Historic Preservation

Local Historic District
Temple currently has one locally designated residential historic district, known officially as the North Central Temple Historic District.  Modifications to buildings within the District are subject to Chapter 17 of the Code of Ordinances to ensure the historic appropriateness of the changes through a certificate of appropriateness (COA) application.  These applications are reviewed and approved by either the Historic Preservation Officer or by the Historic Preservation Board.  To access a copy of the COA application click here.

Historic District residents and preservation enthusiasts alike participate in historic preservation activities through involvement in the Historic Preservation League of Temple.   To find out more information about the league, please click the following link: Historic Preservation League of Temple

Nation Register Historic District
Most of downtown Temple is located within a National Register Historic District designated in 2005 and called the Temple Commercial Historic District, which also qualifies Contributing buildings for Federal (20%) and State (25%) historic tax credits.
