Accessory Structures
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Site map showing location of structure – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear.
- Clearly mark where structure will be on site map.
- Dimensions to the home (10') or commercial building (25’) and each property line (3’)
- Pamphlet or brochure of structure - if you are purchasing it.
- Framing details and material list - if you are building it.
- Carport – if connected to home - need to know how.
- If pouring a slab for structure, we will require same items as flatwork (see Flatwork/Driveway/Approach below) – concrete must not be in any utility easement.
Fence
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Site map showing location of structure – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear.
- Clearly mark where fence will be on site map.
- What is the material of fence – chain-link, cedar pickets ornamental iron?
- 6’-8’ in back – front can only be 4’ and every other picket must be removed for visibility.
Permit Fees
Demolition
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Residential – need square footage and what type of material it is.
- Commercial – need an asbestos survey.
- Bond – will be refunded once site is inspected and clean after demolition.
Flatwork/Driveway/Approach
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Site map showing location of work – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear
- Clearly mark where flatwork will be on site map
- Dimensions to any buildings and each property line
- If connecting to existing concrete how will it be connected
- PSI of concrete, rebar size , length, width depth of concrete, 12” on center
- Approach work – requires a $3,000.00 bond – once work is done and no damage it will be refunded
Do I need to pave my driveway or parking lot?
Off-street parking within the city is required to be paved with asphalt or concrete. Longer driveways on acreage may qualify for graded material.
Electrical - Upgrades/Repairs
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Amperage, Feeder Panels, outlets, etc.
Plumbing – Replace/Repairs/Water Heater
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- What are you replacing?
- How many gallons, and is it electrical or gas?
- If replacing backflow – where are you replacing it?
Irrigation
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Must have stamped signed drawing of zones
- How many heads?
Roof
City of Temple will only accept 1 layer for residential.
Please include the following information in your application:
- What type of material is existing and what are you replacing it with, including color?
- If in Historical District – provide photos.
- If commercial, we will need an asbestos letter showing no asbestos on roof.
Signs
Please include the following information in your permit application:
- Site map showing location of sign if on ground – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear.
- Where will sign be placed? – if pole or monument we need distance from property line to outer edge of sign.
- Rendering of what sign will look like.
- If pole sign - need overall height.
- Dimension of sign?
- Dimension from bottom of sign to ground if it is a wall sign – minimum 10’.
- How many signs are you permitting?
- How many signs are already there?
- Is it illuminated?
Swimming Pool – Above/Underground
Please include the following information in your permit application:
- Site map showing location of where pool will be – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear.
- Dimensions to the house and each property line -must be a minimum of 5’.
- Show location of fence around pool – must be 5’ for residential and 6’ for commercial.
- Back door must have an alarm.
- Self-closing and self-latching gate?
Retaining Walls – over 2'
Anything over 2’ must have engineered stamped drawings.

- What material will be used?
Solar Panels – Roof/Ground mounted
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Site map showing location of where solar panels will be on roof or ground – aerial google map will work as long as it is in color and clear.
- Schematic’s on solar panels.
- How much of estimated cost is electrical portion of total?
- Who will be the electrician?
- Stamped signed letter from Engineer that roof can withstand the extra weight of the solar panels?
Siding
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- How much are you changing – portion or total?
- What material are you using?
- Color of material?
Windows
Please include the following information on your permit application:
- Will require a copy of the window sticker.
- How many windows?
- Framing details if window size has changed.
How do I register as a contractor for the City?
- Provide your business name, contractor first & last name, address, phone, type of contractor, and email address.
- $80.00 annual contractor fee which can be paid online, by phone, or in person. Must be paid prior to permits being approved.
- Registration must be renewed annually
What are the parking requirements for a commercial project?
The parking ratios are determined by use and are listed in UDC Section 7.5
