73rd Annual Christmas Parade kicks off holidays in Downtown Temple

Join us on the first Monday in December for one of the largest lighted Christmas parades in Texas and help welcome Santa Claus to Downtown Temple! The City of Temple’s 73rd Annual Christmas Parade, produced by the City of Temple Parks & Recreation Department, is scheduled for Monday evening, December 2nd, 2019. This year’s parade theme is “12 Days of Christmas". We hope you and your family will join us for this magical holiday tradition!

Schedule of Activities
•    4:00 pm – 6th and 8th Streets closed for parade entries.
•    4:30 pm – Come early to get a great seat in front of City Hall, visit local shops for some early Christmas shopping, or enjoy a leisurely meal in our Downtown restaurants.
•    5:45 pm – No traffic allowed down Adams Avenue.
•    6:15 pm – Mayor Tim Davis will light the Municipal Building's holiday decorations and the City's Christmas tree located in the parking lot of City Hall (2 N. Main Street).
•    6:30 pm – Parade begins, featuring over 100 illuminated floats, marching bands and decorated rides.
•    7:20 pm – Santa begins his trip down the parade route on a specially designed float.

Parade Route

The parade starts at the intersection of E. Adams Avenue and N. 8th Street, proceeds west along Adams Avenue, in front of the Municipal Building, all the way to North 23rd Street and then turns north and disbands at Temple High School.

It is recommended that spectators arrive by 6:00 p.m. Guests may park on the side streets and walk to Adams Avenue or park in several parking lots located along Adams Avenue. The municipal parking lot at City Hall will also be available for parking. Parade officials anticipate the parade to last approximately 90 minutes. The streets will reopen immediately following the parade.

Grand Marshal

The 73rd Annual Christmas Parade Grand Marshal is Dr. Bobby Ott, Superintendent of the Temple Independent School District. Dr. Ott was named Temple ISD Superintendent in April 2018 and served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Temple ISD since 2012.

“This is a great opportunity to represent Temple ISD as part of this longstanding community tradition,” said Dr. Ott.  “For the last seven years, I have watched this parade alongside of Temple families and am grateful for another opportunity to connect with our students, families and TISD staff members. I hope to see everyone there!”

Safety

Temple Police Department will be setting up a Mobile Command Center located near Temple High School (415 N 31st St.) for anyone who needs assistance during the parade. You can also go to the Temple Police Department’s lobby or to any of the traffic control checkpoints located along the parade route if you need officer assistance.
•    Please ensure all children are accounted for. Set up a meeting spot in case they get separated.
•    Tell your children if they do get lost, they should approach the nearest uniformed police officer immediately.
•    Write down your phone number on a piece of paper and place it into your child’s pocket so you can be called if your child is found.
•    Take a photograph of your child in what they will be wearing that day. This way, officers will have an accurate photo to use as a reference.
•    Make sure that your vehicle is locked and windows are secured. DO NOT leave any valuables in your vehicle.
•    While driving, please be mindful of the increased pedestrian traffic.

How to Watch

This year, the City of Temple is partnering with KCEN to provide parade commentary with evening anchors Leslie Draffin and Kris Radcliffe. The parade will also be live streamed on kcentv.com for those who cannot attend the parade in person.
