City of Temple to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

The City of Temple, in cooperation with Waste Management - Temple Landfill, Temple Iron & Metal, and the Central Texas Council of Governments, will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on Saturday, October 12th from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The collection will be held at the Temple Service Center located at 3210 E. Avenue H. Residents living in Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills and San Saba counties are invited to participate.

Residents may bring any of the following for proper disposal: tile, toilet, oven and drain cleaners; polishes, ammonia, paints, stains, varnishes, paint thinners and/or removers, aerosol spray cans, pesticides, herbicides, insect repellents, fungicides, pool chemicals, automotive batteries, used oil and oil filters, old gasoline, transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze and up to 8 passenger tires. A $1.00 surcharge will be placed on each tire over the limit. Tires on rims or tires with a 21.5-inch rim dimension or larger cannot be accepted. Electronics such as old computer equipment will also be accepted. When residents arrive to the event and enter the collection hot zone, staff requests residents remain inside their cars, but to please turn off their car's ignition.

This annual Household Hazardous Waste collection is an opportunity for residents to dispose of household hazards properly. The event offers a better alternative to throwing the materials in your household garbage to be disposed of in the landfill or have the potential of igniting and causing a fire in the garbage truck.

PROHIBITED items for this event include: infectious and medical wastes, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives. Commercial waste will not be accepted at this event and is for household hazards only.

Funding for this event is made possible by Waste Management-Temple Landfill and the Central Texas Council of Governments. The City of Temple appreciates the opportunity to have been selected to host this event for our citizens and those in surrounding communities.
