Enjoy Old Fashioned, Homespun Fun at Temple's Railroad & Heritage Museum

Step back in time and try your hand at making traditional crafts the old fashioned way! On Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum presents the Homespun History Family Day. Learn how  local craftspeople of yesteryear dedicated their lives to a trade and created beautiful handmade works of art for their friends, family and neighbors long before modern machinery and megastores.

Guests will also get a chance to meet modern craftspeople who continue past traditions of basketry, horseshoeing, loom weaving, and other traditional crafts. These craftspeople will also demonstrate their skills and show guests how handcrafted goods were made in years past. Younger visitors will get the chance to try their hand at creating traditional crafts and exploring real examples of “homespun history” from the Museum’s collections.

The Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum hosts a free Family Day event on the first Saturday of each month. Attendance at the event is free. Regular admission charges apply to view the rest of the museum. The museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot at 315 West Avenue B in downtown Temple. The museum is open 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday.
