Smoke Testing Taking Place in Friars Creek Basin this July

The City of Temple is currently in the process of evaluating the city's sanitary sewer infrastructure and has partnered with the RJN Group to begin smoke testing the collection system located in the Friars Creek Basin. Smoke testing is one technique used to identify areas where unnecessary groundwater or rainfall enters the sewer system, which can cause backups, overflows, and increased costs for treatment. The smoke that is expelled out of vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground is non-toxic, harmless, has no odor, and does not create a fire hazard.

At least 24 hours before smoke testing is scheduled to start, RJN will place door hangers on the front door of every building where testing will be conducted.  Signs will also be prominently displayed on the street when smoke testing is in progress.
