Mayor Announces Winners of Architectural Appreciation Photography Contest

This week, Mayor Timothy A. Davis announced the winners of the inaugural Temple Architectural Appreciation Photography Contest. The contest was staged as part of Temple’s community observance of National Preservation Month, which is intended to draw public attention to the importance of preserving historic buildings.
Forty-six entries were received, and all were judged by a panel which included the Mayor, a professional photographer, and a member of the City Staff. Contest entrants were allowed to submit no more than three entries each.

The winners were as follows:
1st Place:             Terry Rascoe for his photo of the Hawn Hotel and Arcadia Theater
2nd Place:            Terry Rascoe for his photo of the Santa Fe Depot
3rd Place:             Jason Deckman for his photo of the Jupe Feed Company Silos

All winning entries received prize ribbons, and the 1st Place winner received a Champion’s Trophy.

All forty-six contest entries have been combined into a wonderful photo exhibit that showcases the most interesting historic buildings in Temple. The exhibit will be shown at three local museums and will be open for public viewing:

•    In May and June, it will be shown at the Czech Heritage Museum located at 119 W. French Ave. in Temple.
•    In July and August, it will be shown at the Bell County Museum located at 201 N. Main St. in Belton
•    In September and October, it will be shown at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum at 315 W. Avenue B.
