Ways you can help

What can I do to prevent storm water pollution?

    •   Use fertilizers sparingly and sweep up driveways, sidewalks, and gutters
    •   Never dump anything down storm drains
    •   Vegetate bare spots in your yard
    •   Compost your yard waste
    •   Use less toxic pesticides and follow labels
    •   Take your car to the car wash instead of washing it in the driveway
    •   Check your car for leaks
    •   Recycle your motor oil
    •   Have your septic tank system inspected and pumped regularly
    •   Pick up after your pet: pick up your pet waste and dispose of it in the trash

A little can go a long way.....

Pet waste left on the street or lawn is often washed down the storm drain system.  Pet waste can travel for miles in the water.

All stormwater drains to a body of water such as a river, stream, creek, lake or ocean.

The waste from one large dog in one day contains approximately 7.8 billion fecal coliform bacteria.

Bag your pet’s waste and trash it to prevent the waste from contaminating our waters.
