Boards & Commissions

The Temple City Council is committed to appointing highly qualified and dedicated people to City's boards to lend a diverse viewpoint concerning issues facing Temple. State law establishes several of the City’s boards and commissions, while others result from the City Charter provisions and local ordinances. City boards address such subjects as the airport, animal services, building codes, the library, and planning and zoning.

Members of the City’s boards and commissions are considered “officers” of the City and are governed by both local and state statutes. City staff members conduct orientation sessions for new board members twice per year to provide a short course on local government and home rule cities, the Open Meetings Act, and Conflict of Interest statutes. The City Council appoints members to its standing boards in March and September each year.  If you are interested in serving on a board or commission, or have questions regarding City Boards and Commissions policy questions, please contact the City Secretary’s Office at 254-298-5700.  View a copy of the Boards and Commission Policy (PDF)
