Geographic Information System (GIS) is an integrated collection of computer software and data used to view and manage information about geographic locations, analyze spatial relationships, and model spatial processes. The GIS provides a framework for gathering and organizing spatial data and related information, displayed in cartographic static and interactive maps.
The GIS division is responsible for the design and maintenance of the City's GIS which is used to generate the various geospatial datasets such as parcels, roads, zoning, and district boundaries just to name a few. Additionally, we create custom applications which are used to distribute GIS data to the departments. Under strong leadership and technical resources, the GIS Division provides several key services on behalf of the program. When performed centrally, these services eliminate duplication of effort and promote the development of department-specific systems.
Our mission is to implement an integrated and cooperative GIS program among the Departments within the City of Temple.
